De lo que sí está seguro es que su ciudad está llena de farsantes sin escrúpulos dispuestos a prometer salud, dinero y amor a cualquiera que quiera creer. Y pagar. Para Ricardo, enfrentarse al Cacique es la única forma de cerrar una herida que lleva dos años abierta. Sabe que tendrá que poner en riesgo su vida, y no le importa. Lo que no se imagina es que ese brujo no es más que el primer eslabón de una macabra trama que lleva años cobrándose vidas en nombre de la fe.
Unas líneas acerca de esta novela del argentino Cristian Perfumo que, por esas cosas de internet, tuvo a bien conocerme y hacerme llegar amablemente la misma con el legítimo propósito de que le dedicara unas líneas. Algo que me dispongo a hacer a continuación.
Comenzaré diciendo que no conozco de nada a Cristian, así que mi opinión no estará sesgada en absoluto. Tampoco he pisado ni Argentina ni Australia -¡qué más quisiera yo algún día!- lugares donde ha nacido y vive el autor. Sin embargo, supongo que por una especie de simpatía o empatía, me localizó y escribió. La novela en cuestión supone una crítica (o, al menos, lo pretende) al peligroso mundo de los chamanes y charlatanes. Engañababos, timadores, videntes, astrólogos, farsantes, pastores, curanderos y todo tipo de fauna. En este caso, Cristian crea una trama policíaca en torno a un caso ficticio allá por su Comodoro Rivadavia natal, y construye con bastante acierto una novela. Como suele decirse en muchas reseñas, recomendable.
La novela es muy amena, y lo suficientemente breve como para no cansar -ni liar en exceso- al lector. Yo no soy muy amigo del género thriller, que me parece se repite y aburre bastante, amén de colapsar interminables series de televisión. Pero tiene legión de seguidores y para ellos este título, Cazador de farsantes puede ser un buen entretenimiento.
No he buceado mucho en la biografía del autor. Tiene un par de novelas más, también creo que del mismo género (más información en su blog, aquí) y parece que ya un aceptable número de seguidores. Para los que escribimos de forma ocasional no es mala cosa, ni mucho menos. No me queda muy claro si podrá vivir de está pasión y afición, ni tan siquiera si tiene el apoyo de una editorial detrás para esta novela (creo que es autopublicada, pero tal vez me equivoque). Sea así o no, se echa de menos. Tal vez sea lo malo -o menos bueno- de la novela: las inconsistencias en algunos puntos de la narración, claras faltas de estilo (lo que aquí llamamos 'topicazos'), o flecos sueltos que se corrigen normalmente con esta figura últimamente denostada o tenida por innecesaria. La autoedición conlleva irremisiblemente -salvo milagros- a muchos chirridos literarios que hacen que el lector abandone el Kindle y pase a la novela siguiente, que candidatos a Borges -gratis- no faltan (digo Borges como podría decir Cervantes, por cortesía con Cristian)
Sin embargo, la novela se salva y se lleva bien. El autor, repito, no me conoce de nada y a pesar de ello me ha hecho llegar su novela porque sí, y de la misma forma le puedo decir que no es el primero, pero sí de los pocos a los que hago mención incluso de forma pública. Que entienda que el resto de aspirantes a escritores han quedado en mi personalísimo olvido, principalmente por ser infumables. No es su caso, repito. En cuanto a la trama echo de menos algo más de realidad, de reflejo social, de compromiso, y algo menos de heroicidades y batallas de buenos y malos. Pero me ha llenado unas horas de asueto veraniego -aquí en el hermisferio Norte- de forma agradable y creo que poco más se le puede pedir.
Si Cristian Perfumo quería un apoyo de un modesto escéptico científico ocasionalmente metido a novelista, ya lo tiene.
